Education and Training
Dr. Sangra grew up on Vancouver Island surrounded by nature. It was during this early part of her life that realized she wanted to work with alternative medicine to help people heal. Dr. Sangra attended the University of British Columbia where she majored in Biology. She went on to pursue her medical training at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine in Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Sangra started practicing naturopathic medicine in 2003 and worked alongside a well renowned practitioner in White Rock until 2009 when she decided to work closer to home and her family (including two young children) in Vancouver.
Dr. Sangra has special interest in the following:
Children’s Health: Chronic Flus • Colds • Eczema • Digestive Complaints • Food Allergies and Hyperactivity
Dr. Sangra has developed an interest in children’s health issues due to the fact that both of her children were born with food sensitivities, which is quite common with children and even adults.
Digestive Health: Celiacs Disaease • Chronic Constipation and Diarrhea • Crohns Disease • Heartburn • Irritable Bowel Disease • “Leaky-Gut” Syndrome • Stomach and Duodenal Ulcers • Ulcerative colitis
Dr. Sangra has had a great deal of success with treating digestive issues. Dr. Sangra’s treatment focuses on patient’s diet and overall nutrition and may also include a detox program, which assists the body in eliminating toxins that affect the functionality of the digestive system and other organs in the body.
Emotional Health: Anxiety • Depression • Chronic Fatigue • Insomnia and Post-Traumatic Stress
All of the above have become quite common place for teenagers (who are struggling to find their identity), young adults (who are trying to establish roots for themselves) and the elderly (who are feeling isolated and alone). Dr. Sangra has dealt with a number of patients who suffer from such conditions and is dedicated to helping them find a solution through natural alternatives.
Women’s Health: Breast Health • Hormonal Imbalance • Infertility • Menopause and Premenstrual Symptoms
Women today face many competing demands and challenges in trying to balance both their family and professional lives. As a result, many women are experiencing adrenal fatigue, hormonal imbalances, infertility and menopausal irregularities. Dr. Sangra believes birth control pills and hormonal replacement therapy are not the appropriate way to resolve imbalances. Instead, they only mask the true cause and do not take care of the root cause, as natural alternatives can.
Dr. Sangra also uses thermography to assess breast health. Thermography is an imaging technique that uses infrared cameras to identify heat patterns on the surface of the body. These heat patterns are affected by changes in the small blood vessel circulation. Before a malignant adenoma tumour forms there are early changes in the regional blood vessels. Thermography detects functional changes up to 5-8 years before the development of a mass.
Dr. Sangra believes that the key to treating someone is to use “nature’s medicine” to resolve current symptoms and to focus on maintaining a balanced lifestyle to ensure long term health. This form of treatment allows a patient to deal with existing symptoms and also prevents imbalances from occurring in the future. She teaches her patients that their wellness program can be enhanced by working on their body, mind and spirit through: (1) maintaining a balanced diet that supports their unique body type, (2) engaging in physical activity, (3) exposing oneself to the natural environment to get as much fresh air and sun as possible, (4) getting adequate amounts of restful sleep, and (5) calming the mind through some form of relaxation and/or meditation. Dr. Sangra is of the strong opinion that the health of the mind and body is interconnected and that the key to true health is to first recognize how they affect each other and next ensure that they are functioning optimally through a balanced lifestyle.
Dr. Sangra believes the medicinal qualities of nature are often needed to assist the mind and body to achieve a full state of health.
Dr. Sangra focuses on developing simple but comprehensive programs that patients can integrate into their everyday lives. Dr.Sangra recognizes the benefit of working with other healthcare practitioners in order to help her patients achieve optimal health.
